Measles & Mumps Outbreaks


Measles continues to spread. Nova Scotia, Canada reported their first case since 2008. There were 13 confirmed cases since March 20, 2017. Likely stemming for an infected international traveler. In Thailand there have been more than 75 cases per week, occurring primarily in Pattaya, Noarathiwat, Yala, Samut Sakhon, and Prachuab Kiri Khan provinces. There have been more than 1,100 cases since January 2017 in 56 of the 57 provinces including Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, and Chiang Mai. Since late 2016 there have been at least confirmed cases of travelers returning from Thailand. The have been an increase in the number of cases of measles throughout Europe since January 2017 as well.

Mumps have been reported in the Marshal Islands, primarily in Majuro. More than 45 cases have been reported weekly since October 2016.

All individuals 12 months or older born in 1957 or later without history of disease or of 2 countable doses of live vaccine at any during should complete a lifetime total of 2 doses of MMR vaccine spaced out at least 28 days. Infants 6-11 months should receive one dose of MMR. 15 cases of mumps have been confirmed per month in West Auckland, New Zealand since January 2017 which is a significant increase over the average.
