South Korea Winter Olympics 2018 Travelers
There are more than 500,000 international visitors expected to attend the 2018 Winter Olympics between February 9-25, 2018 and the Paralympic Games between March 9-18, 2018. Events will take place in multiple venues in and near Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, South Korea.
As usual travelers should follow routine precautions and vaccination recommendations for travel to South Korea. These include
Get your flu shot. If you are risk of complications related to the flu, consider caring antiviral medications with you.I
Avian Influenza. Avoid direct contact with poultry and their secretions.
Other vaccines: Hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and updates of routine vaccines as usually indicated.
Rabies. Canine rabies is not present. Risk from wildlife and domestic animals is limited to Gangwon and Gyeonggi provinces.
Malaria and Japanese encephalitis: Not a concern as events are during winter when transmission does not occur.
Sexually transmitted infections (STI): Safer sex will reduce the risk of HIV, STI, and hepatitis B.
Cold-related injury: Extra precautions to avoid hypothermia and other cold-related conditions are recommended.
