Yellow Fever Vaccine Update

Sanofi-Pastuaer, the manufacturer of the Yellow Fever Vaccine announced today the Yellow Fever Supply will not available until the end of 2018. What does this mean?

We will have to continue to vaccinate patients as we are currently. This means...

Local clinics such as ours will not providing the vaccine it's self. There are 3 ways we can recommend you get the Yellow Fever Vaccine before your travels and we can help you do it.

1. The Time Restricted Way by scheduling an appointment at DHMC through their travel clinic, however the wait is long due the fact they are the only clinic in the state who can give Stamaril (the European version of yellow fever vaccine which has been used for years and is as safe as what is given in the US) under the Expanded Access Program which is similar to our FDA experimental drug program here in the US. Vaccines can only be given 30 days before, but must be 10 days before you leave. This is a very small window and not convienent. They are booking out weeks for a consultation visit that is required to have the yellow fever vaccine, however...

2. The Quicker Way is by scheduling an appointment with us for your consultation, other vaccines, prescriptions, etc. We can then refer you to the Clinic at DHMC where they can quickly schedule you for a vaccine administration only visit for the Yellow Fever Vaccine. We can schedule you within days to a week usually and then within days to a week you can get your vaccine at DHMC. The process has worked very smoothly for patients who have chosen this root and are on short time schedule.

3. The least likely way is if you are traveling to Europe before going to Yellow Fever areas such as South America or Africa you can get the Stamaril Vaccine in clinic there, which may even be in the airport. The costs is also considerably less than in the US for the same vaccine. This however requires planning and an additional trip and likely will only work into plans for a select few patients.

We are able to still sign waivers if appropriate and rewrite Yellow Cards for individuals who have already received the Yellow Fever Vaccine who show proof of this. Yellow Fever vaccination is now good for life and no longer needs a booster every 10 years. If you have had a Yellow Fever Vaccine once in your life and show proof we can rewrite your card and you will not need another vaccine.

Let us help you have a safe trip and ease the process in getting your vaccines, prescriptions, and consultations before you go. Start your travel plans with us. We are hoping by the end of the year we will be able to offer Yellow Fever once again here so you will not have to travel, before you travel.
