This is the most recent advice from the American Consulate in Mexico.

Avoid the Centro, Calica, Guerrero, Quintas del Carmen, and Villas del Carmen neighborhoods of Playa del Carmen. Avoid ferry services between Playa del Carmen and Cozumel as investigations into the explosive devices continue.

Check consulates and embassies often for travel alerts before and during your travels where ever you go.
